The Seraph Seal (fiction)

As more and more devastation erupts throughout the world there is more interest in the End Times.  Tornado's, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, war, and political agendas have caused people to think about and study what the Bible has to say about the end of the world.  This has also caused an explosion in the genre.
The example that I read was fictional book The Seraph Seal written by Leonard Sweet and Lori Wagner.  Leonard is a preacher, scholar and Clergyman of the United Methodist Church and Lori is a teacher, and Christian leader who established Affirming Faith.  Because of this background the story is steeped in authenticity.  By using the four horsemen of the Apocalypse to symbolize the four Gospels, four transcendentals, and four forces of the universe (air, water, earth, and fire).  Using this, the author’s share a tale of good verse evil, and exhibit a concept of what the end times may be like.
While I appreciate and respect the background of both authors I found this book tiresome and boring.  I had a hard time understanding the story through sound Biblical doctrine.  There are many times in the book where the authors took a concept and spun it in a way that I find hard to see in the Bible.  I would not recommend this book as anything more then something to pass the time.  Much like The Shack and The Da Vinci Code this book offers little to the Christian who is based in Biblical truth.

How to write a book proposal

If you are looking for a single book with as much information as you can handle about how to get a non-fiction book published then Michael Larsen has one for you; How to Write a Book Proposal.

I have read through this book once and I know there is a wealth of information that I missed the first time through.  I will have to thumb through and write notes just to try to grasp it all.  I must say it isn’t hard to read rather it just has so much information that each section is filled with information vital to ensure success for the potential author.

Larsen includes information on everything from choosing a title, promoting your book, marketing, self-publishing, as well as selecting an agent and great little visual flow diagram of the publishing process itself.

Washington - The legacy of Leadership

As both a lover of all things early American history as well as a fan of our Founding Fathers I was excited to read this book.  Published by Thomas Nelson I was eager to learn more about both General Washington as well as his faith, which over recent years has been under discussion.

General Washington like most of our Founding Fathers placed a great deal of faith in the Lord as well as held firm a belief that God was vital to, and standing with, the efforts to overthrow the English tyranny.  While liberals and the loud minority atheist in this country will dispute and disclaim this the evidence is obvious in both Washington’s actions as well as his writings.

This book goes out of its way immediately to tell the writer that the purpose of this book is not to discuss faith. “Although this work is not primarily intended to emphasize the religious faith of Washington, the dependence upon and belief in the power of God is evident in his writings…..Here, we shall allow his words to speak for themselves.”

Instead this book is more of an essay about the General Washington, what shaped the man and his love of this country even before he became President.   If you want to learn about the history of Washington in a far more concise and easy to read format then the more popular book Sacred Fire.  Then this book is perfect for you.
